Board of Management

 

The Board of Management is appointed to oversee the management of Orbost Regional Health as a Multi Purpose Service under the Health Services Act 1988.

Board members are appointed for a term of up to three years by the Governor-in-Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Health. The Board Chair is currently Catrynes van der Vlugt. The Board appoints the Chief Executive to manage the functions of the organisation.

The Board meets monthly to monitor performance of Orbost Regional Health in regard to clinical and corporate governance matters and the development of the organisation and its services.

Chief Executive Officer Therese Tierney manages Orbost Regional Health and reports to the Board of Management.

Board Members:

There are 12 positions on the Board of Management at Orbost Regional Health and these are currently filled by interested people from the local community who have skills or experience that will add value to the role of the Board.  Appointment to the Board is approved by the Minister of Health and the Board is responsible to the Minister for the clinical and corporate governance of the organisation.

Catrynes van der Vlugt
President, Catrynes comes to ORH with a background in banking and finance. Now a local primary producer, Catrynes’ business acumen assists the Board in business negotiations.

David Hollands
A retired local general practitioner who spent 40 years providing a medical service to Orbost, David is also respected internationally for his hobby of bird photography and books on the topic of birds around the world.

Margaret Hollands
Recently a recipient of the 2006 Victorian Rural Doctors Award, Margaret immigrated from the UK and dedicated 40 years of service as a general practitioner along side husband David.

Bill Phillips
Bill was a respected secondary school Principal before retiring to a life as a consultant. A past president of the Board, Bill provides a strong community perspective to deliberations.

Brian Shelley
A local business owner of many years, Brian provides an impartial objectivity and financial expertise to the many and various health issues raised at Board level.

Garry Squires
Garry’s skills in management and strategic focus assist the Board to fulfill their governance role. Garry is committed to the economic development of the local community and the Board benefits from this perspective.

 

Barbara Heiss
A comprehensive background in the ACT Department of Education, Youth and Family Services has given Barbara a solid understanding of corporate governance, risk management, human resource management and accountability.

Mary McKeown
A long standing local community member and owner of a significant farm property portfolio, Mary comes to the Board with formal commerce qualifications.  Mary is a member of the Board’s Audit Committee.

Teresa Royce
A qualified teacher, Teresa has worked in the field of education for 25 years. She has extensive experience in working with disabled children and adults, and was actively involved with koori children and their families, giving insight into their health and emotional needs.

Jan Phillips
Jan has worked for the Department of Education and Training for a number of years.  She has retired twice, but keeps returning to provide a passionate response to community needs.
