Orbost Regional Health provides medical, obstetric, minor surgical theatre and dialysis services from the hospital. The Acute Ward also provides palliative and respite care.
Facilities include rooms of one or two beds, telephones and TV’s to all beds. Visiting hours are flexible with a patient rest period between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm daily.

Accident & Emergency (24 hours)
An unfunded but fully equipped emergency department operates 24 hours per day to manage medical emergencies and serious accidents. Nursing staff with advanced practice skills are on duty at all hours with doctors on call after hours. If patients are able and their condition is not life threatening, then they should attend the medical clinic during business hours in preference to attending at the hospital.

Boarders
If a child or seriously ill patients are in hospital a parent/partner may board in at the hospital for a fee; meals are a separate cost.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Hospital patients may be referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation program if this is appropriate to their ongoing care. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides assessment, support & education for both medical & surgical cardiac patients. A monitored exercise and education group meets on Thursday afternoons 1pm to 2:30pm over a 12 week course.

Safety & Quality issues are monitored by the subregional Director of Medical Services who attends 6 weekly to oversee the medical administration policy and practice.

Dialysis
ENT Services
ENT surgical services are provided to residents of Far East Gippsland. In order to access the service you need to have a GP referral to Professor Sizeland and a consultation in our outpatients department. This service is supported by an Audiologist.

Medical, Surgical and Theatre
Orbost Regional Health supports medical inpatient services with 15 beds for elective and emergency admissions; low risk surgical services. There are single and double rooms available according to the service needs of the patient. More serious surgical and medical conditions are able to be transferred to a more appropriate health service via ambulance (road or air) once stabilised. ORH is staffed by qualified nursing staff who are experiences rural nurses. There is always a midwife on duty.

Midwifery
Needle Exchange
A needle exchange program operates from the Community Health Nurses office during the day. For after hours service, kits are available from the Nurses Station in Hollands Wing acute ward at the hospital.

Outpatients
The health service provides limited outpatients services by arrangement with Orbost Regional Health Medical Clinic doctors outside of business hours. Patients may be asked to attend Outpatients for ongoing treatment or ring the hospital on 03 5154 6666 for urgent medical treatment after hours.

Pathology
ORH is an agency for Gippsland Pathology Services and provides a Pathology collection service which operates Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 11:45am (except public holidays). Appointments are not required.

X-Ray/Radiology
X-Ray services using modern equipment are available on Mondays with an experienced visiting radiolographer. Local doctors are also able to perform X-Rays in emergencies. For appointments please call Reception on 03 5154 6666
