Accountant (0.6 FTE) – Hybrid Work Arrangement

Orbost Regional Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Accountant to join our Finance team on a 0.6 FTE basis. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful contribution within a vital regional health service, supporting high‑quality care across Far East Gippsland.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Corporate Services, the Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting across statutory, regulatory and funding requirements. The role provides leadership to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, supports month‑end and year‑end processes, and contributes to budgeting, forecasting and financial governance.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement (to be negotiated), providing flexibility while supporting operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory financial statements in line with Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Coordinate regulatory reporting, Department of Health submissions, and grant acquittals.
  • Lead month‑end processes including journals, accruals, reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to ensure accuracy and internal control compliance.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support Executive and Board decision‑making.
  • Assist with annual budgets, forecasting and financial modelling.
  • Identify and implement improvements to finance systems, processes and controls.

About You

You will bring strong technical accounting capability, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic health service environment.

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or related field. Applicants who can demonstrate strong capability but do not hold a formal qualification are still encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, statutory or regulatory reporting.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and audit processes.
  • Experience coordinating AP/AR functions.
  • High‑level skills in Excel and financial systems.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Desirable:

  • IPA/CPA/CA qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience in public health, community services or government finance.
