Speech Pathology
Speech Pathologists are trained professionals who assess, diagnose and treat communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Orbost Regional Health has a full time speech pathologist who can provide information and treatment for a variety of issues including:
- Child development of speech and language
- Augmentative and alternative communication for those who cannot communicate verbally
- communication and cognition impairments in adults
- social skills
- swallowing difficulties in both children and adults including saliva control
- stuttering
- voice
The Speech Pathologist at Orbost works closely with the Allied Health team, families, kindergartens, day-care, hospital and aged care facilities to achieve the best results for their clients. This service is available to all members of the community aged from birth to 6 years, and adults. Parents of school-aged children requiring speech pathology services should contact the child's school principal. For children, the service is free of cost. For adult clients, there is a cost associated with Speech Pathology consultations.
