How to apply
Start with My Aged Care
Before entering residential aged care, you must first register with My Aged Care and complete an assessment.
The assessment helps determine:
- your eligibility for residential aged care
- the level of care you need
- what fees and contributions may apply.

Understanding residential aged care costs
Residential aged care fees depend on your individual circumstances and when you entered or were approved for aged care services.
Accommodation can generally be paid through:
Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
A lump sum payment, with the applicable refundable amount returned when you
leave care, less any agreed deductions.
Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)
A daily payment instead of paying a lump sum.
Combination payment
A combination of RAD and DAP.
Different fee arrangements may apply depending on your circumstances, including whether you were previously approved for a Home Care Package before 12 September 2024.
Because aged care fees can be complex, we recommend speaking with My Aged Care, Services Australia or our team about your individual situation.
