The Welcoming Committee

The Orbost Regional Health community Welcoming Committee is a volunteer group of local people to welcome new doctors and hospital staff and their families to the area.

The goal of the Welcoming Committee is to help new staff build strong connections in this community and feel supported and comfortable here.

When a new GP, locum or hospital staff person is hired, the Welcoming Committee learns about the person's background, interests and family needs, and then meets to discuss what they can do to help the new arrival feel supported and connected in the area.

This includes:

  • advice about schooling, local sports groups, restaurants and groceries
  • tourism and recreation outings
  • assistance with finding housing
  • connection to other families in the region from the same background
  • language assistance or lessons
  • home-cooked meals to make life a little easier in those early weeks
  • social get-togethers

Orbost Regional Health is looking for a wide variety of local people to be involved in the Welcoming Committee - young and old, long-time locals and recent arrivals, and people with different backgrounds and interests.
